Frequently asked questions
Why does petit cochon choose natural materials?
Our insulating layers are made from carefully selected natural materials that are pleasantly soft, retain warmth, and remain breathable. They support your baby’s natural body climate and can be perfectly combined with our base layer and outer layer.
Is a thermal layer also useful in summer?
On cool summer evenings or in the early morning hours, a lightweight layer of fine knit or organic cotton sweatshirt fabric can be just the right addition.
How can I tell if my baby is too warm?
Regularly feel the back of your baby's neck. It should be pleasantly warm, but not sweaty. The neck is a better indicator than the hands or feet.
What goes over the thermal layer?
In windy, rainy, or winter temperatures, an outer layer provides additional protection—for example, a boiled-wool overall or a boiled-wool jacket.
Can my baby wear the warming layer indoors too?
Yes. On cooler days, a base layer with a cozy all-in-one or fine-knit sweater is often enough. This keeps your baby comfortably warm without the need for a thick jacket.
What is the difference between organic sweatshirt fabric and cotton fleece?
Bio sweat fabric is somewhat lighter and versatile for spring, fall, and mild winter days. Cotton fleece has a soft, fluffy inside and is particularly suitable for cooler temperatures.
Which material is suitable as a thermal insulation layer?
Fine-knit cotton is suitable for mild temperatures and transitional weather. Organic cotton sweatshirt fabric provides pleasant warmth while remaining elastic. Cotton fleece retains a particularly high amount of warmth and is ideal for cooler days.
When is a mid layer sufficient without an outer layer?
On dry, cool spring days or in autumn, a base layer with a warm layer is often sufficient. If wind or rain is added, an outer layer such as a boiled-wool all-in-one or a boiled-wool jacket is also recommended.
Which clothing belongs to the warm layer?
The warm layer includes, for example, cozy organic sweatshirt-fabric or cotton-fleece jumpsuits, fine-knit sweaters, cardigans, and other warm clothing.
Why does my baby need a thermal layer?
Babies cannot regulate their body temperature as well as adults yet. The thermal layer helps retain natural body heat and respond flexibly to changing temperatures.
What is the insulating layer in the layering system?
The insulating layer is the second layer of clothing. It goes over the base layer and retains body heat. This keeps your baby comfortably warm while allowing excess heat to escape.
