Clean virgin-wool clothing as rarely as possible.
Thanks to lanolin, virgin wool has self-cleaning properties. Regular washing is therefore not necessary. Any dirt can be carefully wiped off with a damp cloth. If there is mud on the garment, let it dry first and then remove it with a soft brush. We offer the famous Wonder Brush for this purpose. Persistent odors can be eliminated by airing the garment outdoors.

Wash the cuffs
Often, only the cotton cuffs on the boiled-wool garment are dirty. Our grow-with-me cuffs can also be quickly cleaned in the hand-washing basin with a little hand soap and lukewarm water, without having to clean the entire garment.

How to hand-wash boiled wool properly
Boiled-wool baby clothes rarely need cleaning, but they do need it from time to time. We recommend hand washing. Place the garments in cold water with a small amount of wool detergent. Rinse everything carefully and dry it flat after gently squeezing out the water (e.g., on a towel). Do not rub, or the boiled wool will continue to felt!
Tip: Why not try the shower method? Simply hang your boiled-wool garment in the shower and rinse it with cold water until all the dirt has washed away. Then dry it flat or hang it on a hanger in the shower or outdoors.
How to wash boiled wool properly in the washing machine – here’s how!
Boiled wool is a wonderful material for children's clothing – warm, breathable, and dirt-repellent. To keep your favorite boiled-wool garments looking beautiful for a long time, proper care is essential. Here you will learn how to wash boiled wool in the washing machine without losing its special properties.
Washing boiled wool in the washing machine – step by step
-
Choose a gentle wool-wash program
Choose a wool-wash program, but only if you can set the following on your washing machine: COLD!! NO SPINNING!!
-
Use the right detergent
Use a mild wool detergent without enzymes or fabric softeners. Regular detergent can damage the wool fibers and cause them to felt.
-
Prepare the garments
– Close buttons and zippers.
-
Dry gently
– After washing, reshape the garment and let it dry flat on a towel, or hang it on a hanger and hang it outdoors or in the shower/bathtub (to drip-dry). – Do not place it on a radiator or in the dryer – heat can cause the wool to shrink!
Use wool wax.
With lanolin – a wool wax found in natural sheep's wool – you can restore the wool's protection against moisture and dirt after cleaning it with water. Frequent wear also causes a loss of lanolin. Therefore, use a wool treatment to apply wool wax to the clothing again. This waterproofs the garment and makes it last longer.

What if you don’t currently need your woolen favorites?
Everyone probably knows the feeling: You forget your favorite sweater in the closet for four months and suddenly it has holes. Moths can become a problem, especially during the summer months. The clothes moth lives outdoors and feeds on organic material. Attracted by light, it enters through open windows during the warmer months and enjoys cozy, dark corners in closets and drawers. Fur beetles are just as hungry. They live in wooden floors and furniture and love woolen items just as much. Therefore: Anything that is not worn regularly should be freshly washed and stored tightly sealed. Conventional plastic bags are generally suitable for this purpose. However, you can also use tightly woven cotton bags. Make sure they are tied securely so that nothing can crawl inside. Add a small sachet of lavender, and your favorite items will stay fresh and smell of summer.
Conclusion
If you follow these tips, your boiled wool will remain soft, warm, and durable. And remember: Airing it out is often the best care!
